| PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 25, 2009 -- Xerox Corporation and two of its partners
have developed new paperless solutions for the legal industry, underscoring how
digital technology increases productivity and encourages efficiency. By turning
hardcopy legal case files into digital folders with Xerox DocuShare™, work
processes related to court proceedings have become more efficient, faster and
environmentally friendly.
Xerox and its partner WaterWare Internet Services, Inc., helped the U.S. Pretrial
Services in Los Angeles, a division of the U.S. District Court, reduce paper
usage by 50 percent with a Case Management Organizer. As case numbers are entered
into a Web site, the system generates a pre-set collection of DocuShare folders
that store all pertinent information. DocuShare then automatically notifies
members of the court network when a new case is in the system. The solution
allows employees to instantly access the critical case information they need
and significantly reduces dependence on hard copy documents - resulting in a
nearly paperless office.
"In an industry that often requires producing information at a moment's
notice, Xerox DocuShare has helped us create an efficient and affordable case
management system, allowing us to share information faster than ever before,"
said Luis Dimagiba, director of IT, U.S. Pretrial Services. "The solution
offers instant, intuitive retrieval of documents and effectively replaces paper
with a Web-based filing cabinet - saving on space, time and money."
Another solution, specifically designed for law firms, integrates DocuShare
with ExtraAccess Services, Inc.'s CaseHomePage - creating an Internet site that
provides lawyers with organized, online access to all legal documents. The solution
allows lawyers to send legal files securely and affordably to each other via
the Web, rather than by mail or courier. Authorized parties, such as judges
and court clerks, can communicate instantly through the solution's online message
board and calendar.
Xerox DocuShare offers a number of partner solutions for vertical and cross-industry
organizations. It also provides two ECM applications on a single technology
platform - DocuShare for basic content services across the enterprise and DocuShare
CPX for advanced content and business process automation.
Xerox offers a suite of services for the legal industry.
In addition to DocuShare, Xerox Litigation Services provides in-house counsel
and outside law firms an enterprise-wide discovery management process with services
that mitigate risk, control costs, and allow secure access to the critical information
needed for litigation and other legal support.
